Background

Underwater safari by glass bottom boats etc is not a new concept, especially not in countries like Greece and Spain. The passengers are sitting or laying in a deep keel with windows or looking through a glass in the bottom of the boat.

SS-2000 is also a surface vessel, and the passengers (2) are sitting under the waterline studying the underwater nature through windows in front and sides of the underwater cabin (uw cabin).

SS-2000 is unique because the boat is operated by the passengers themselves. This is a rental boat and the passengers decides were to go and what to see (individual underwater safari).

SS-2000 is classified as a recreation boat, and is constructed and build to meet the claims and regulations in the EEC directives.

SS-2000   is manufactured by Polarcirkel Boat as , worldwide known for  high quality working-, patrol- and rescue boats. All production are based on the ISO 9001 standard and certified by the det Norske Veritas (DNV).

 

Technical specifications:

  • SS-2000 is 3.02 meter long,
  • 1.8 meter wide and app. 0.8 meter deep.
  • Total height is 1.5 meters.
  • Weight in production/transport is app. 300 kg.
  • Ready for use, the boat weigh about 1000 kg.
  • The boat is certified for 2 adults (2 x 100 kg)
  • The hull is produced in HDPE 80 polyethylene

Engine and power:
SS-2000  is delivered  with built-in electric, standard outboard engines.
The engines are controlled from the front seat in the UW-cabin.

Max speed is about 5 knots, which is too fast as safari speed and maybe too
slow for areas with strong currents.

Due to its special hull design, the boat will rotate 360 degrees around its
own centre, this means that it is extremely manoeuvrable

The built-in battery pack  (300 amp) consist of 4 standard consumption
batteries.

The batteries are normally charged by a built in charger (20 amp/h) This
gives the unit  9 hour maximum use and 15 hours charging though a
day-and-night-cycles.
